Welcome to the 2014-15 school year at Central Community High School. I am extremely excited as I begin my sixth year as principal at the High School. I am looking forward to continuing the great working relationship with the community, parents, and students of Central Community School District. We have one of the best facilities in eastern Iowa if not the state of Iowa. We constantly receive awesome comments about this great facility; it is very exciting for our students and staff to be in state-of-the-art facilities.
I know first hand what an exceptional staff Central High School has after working in the District for 16 years as a teacher, assistant principal, and currently as principal. Throughout the past school year, I repeatedly experienced the dedication and concern of our staff members. I look forward to working with our faculty during this school year to help students reach their maximum potential. Our teachers will continue to work diligently at building positive working relationships with our students. We are making a difference in the lives of our students. I truly feel that I have the best job in America!
A few years ago the State standardized test (ITEDs) was changed to what is now called the Iowa Assessments. Once again, our students came through with better scores across the board! Our juniors, sophomores and freshman were all 92% proficient in Reading. Our Math and Science were some of the best scores in the state, a great testament about our students and faculty. This is an accomplishment we are very proud of, as we not only have some of the best scores in the area, but in the State as well. Central High School has an abundance of highly motivated students and we are very pleased with their success.
We are currently working on an implementation plan for the Iowa Core Curriculum and we are re-writing our Math curriculum and will add the first class in this new sequence to meet the demands for all students. Our faculty is working very hard at improving teaching methods to meet the demands of the 21st Century Learner. We will be participating in some fantastic professional development with our teachers this fall. We have focused on Differentiated Instruction (DI), which is a framework to move each individual student forward in the learning process through a Rigorous and Relevant curriculum. Teachers have really embraced this concept. This year teachers will be working on collecting data and using the 5-Step Process to improve instruction. This will make Professional Development (PD) both meaningful and relevant to each teachers needs. We are now in our 3rd year of being a 1 to 1 school with laptops and this tool has really enhanced the instruction of our teachers. Teachers have been very focused on using this tool as a way to engage students in a very productive way. There are so many exciting things happening at the high school and we have embraced change to make this a great place to learn and teach.
Remember that schools operate most efficiently when there is a cooperative effort of parents, students, faculty, and administration. We are a team that functions best when we are all "pulling the rope in the same direction." Please consider logging on to Infinite Campus, our district information system to keep informed and updated on your child’s grades and happenings at the high school We have a goal of having 100% of our parents using this great tool.
